INTENSIVE COURSE „SUMMER SCHOOL ON BIOTA RESEARCH“

Department of Ecology and Environmentalistics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra in collaboration with the Administration of Malá Fatra National Park in Varín, State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic organized the intensive course SUMMER SCHOOL ON BIOTA RESEARCH in the period July 6 to 11, 2013.
The aims of the Summer School on Biota Research is to organize international intensive course focused on the practical methods and workshops in selected tasks of biota research for the students of four universities involved (University of Pécs, University of Hradec Králové, Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan and Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra). The course will be held under supervision of experts and pedagogues from these universities. The intensive course is interesting with its scope and it is focused especially on teaching of actual field research methods, ways of spatial data processing, interpretation and visualization, which present the basic set of competencies, essential for a modern approach in the biota research.
Content of the Summer school is focused on research of selected groups of invertebrates (molluscs, aquatic Colleoptera, epigeic fauna focused on spiders), vertebrates (small terrestrial mammals, bats), as well as on the possibilities of statistical processing and spatial analysis and visualization of obtained data. This is necessary for evaluation of state of ecosystems investigated, data analysis and planning of protection management of investigated area.
The content of the intensive course is directly linked up to university education in natural science subjects and its practical character in the form of „Summer School on Biota Research“ enhances and increases efficiency of pregradual education of future scientists.
